What Google is changing
Google is expanding reporting for generative search features in Search Console. This makes it easier to see how often content appears in AI Overviews, AI Mode and other generative surfaces. Businesses gain an additional view of reach within new search experiences.
What the figures answer—and what they do not
Growing visibility is an important signal. But it does not automatically reveal which content led to an enquiry or a sale. The value of an impression can also vary greatly depending on the search context.
Visibility, clicks, qualified contacts and revenue should therefore still be considered together. Only this connection shows whether a topic attracts attention and also fits the business model and intended audience.
How I would interpret the data
The new figures are particularly useful as a diagnostic channel. They can show which topics are gaining importance in generative search results, where content appears regularly and which areas merit deeper analysis.
The next step is to check whether the affected pages provide clear answers, show transparent authorship and connect to services, case studies or professional sources. Technical fundamentals such as indexability, internal linking and structured data remain relevant as well.
My recommendation
I would not turn the new reports into an isolated success metric. A regular comparison is more useful: Which content is gaining visibility, which brings qualified visits, and which measurably supports the route to an enquiry? This turns a new reporting area into reliable prioritisation for content and marketing.
